A place for living. A place for preserving.

Nestled on the highground within a native forest on Lookout Mountain, the land at Adohi wasn’t chosen for what it could become—but for what it already was.

Towering hardwoods, gentle slopes, and the natural rhythm of birdsong and light guided every decision.

(ᎠᏙᎯ) Adohi: A Name Rooted in the Forest's Past

THE FOREST, THE TIMBERS, THE LANDS, THE GROUND

Adohi” (ᎠᏙᎯ) is the Cherokee word for forest. Long before us, the plateaus of Lookout Mountain were inhabited and cared for by the Cherokee people. Their presence is still felt here — in the arrowheads found on the land, in the choice of high ground near water, and in the stories the land itself holds.

In choosing the name Adohi, we acknowledge their vision and values. The Cherokee saw the forest not just as a resource, but as a living community. One that provides, protects, and requires respect in return.

At Adohi, we carry forward that ethic: to tread lightly, to work with a delicate touch, and to honor the natural systems that sustain us. The land is a gift, and we shape its future with reverence for the people and the ecosystems that came before us.

Leaving Room for the Forest to Breathe

There was plenty of opportunity to crowd more lots onto this land. Instead, we chose to preserve much of it permanently.

Over 15 acres of dedicated wildlife preserve weave through and border the property, protecting habitat and ensuring lasting quiet. It’s better for the land, and it’s better for you — a community shaped with built-in reverence for the forest and the calm it provides.
